With the events of this week (the FBI's unprecedented raid on President Trump's home at Mar-a-Lago), there is one thing that has become extremely obvious: the "one-party rule" that currently exists in Washington D.C., is out of control and must be stopped, and along with it, the weaponization of government agencies against its people. This is to say nothing of the Democrats' costly and outrageous "Inflation Reduction Act," which will arm and increase the number of IRS agents by 87,000 and effectively expand its power against us.

The story isn't much different in the State of New York—new unconstitutional gun laws (in defiance of Supreme Court rulings), unscientific and unhealthy mask mandates, soft-on-crime bail reform and the "politically correct" terminology of "incarcerated persons," rather than "inmates" has turned our life upside-down.

To that end, we need more sensible Republican-Conservative federal and state representatives. We have an excellent slate of candidates this year, from governor on down, as well as U.S. senator and congressman positions. But, to begin with, we must elect Marc Molinaro on August 23 in the Special Election for Congressman (or by Absentee Ballot or early voting August 13-21, 2022). This is very important and if you are concerned about this country's direction, by all means, make sure you vote.

For your information, the video starts out with introductions and the meat of the speech begins at about 18.00. One very important topic that is stressed by President Trump is the importance of electing Conservative candidates into Congress and the Senate. We have an opportunity on August 23rd to flip the Congressional seat previously held by a Democrat (Antonio Delgado) in District 19 to the Republican-Conservative candidate, Marc Molinaro. Voting for Molinaro in this Special Election is an important first step in bringing back the America that we grew up in. It is an “open election,” which means that any and all eligible voters can cast a ballot.

Remember: the Democrats get their people out to vote—America is in trouble and voting for Marc Molinaro is an important first step to correct it; it is imperative that we vote on August 23rd (or by absentee ballot or early voting August 13-21).

Redistricting based upon the 2020 Census numbers moves Saugerties into District 41, which is currently represented by State Senator Sue Serino (R) and she will be on the ballot in November. An Outstanding Conservative

At the June meeting of the Ulster County Conservative Party, Zach Horton was unanimously elected as Recording Secretary to its Executive Board.  He will undoubtedly do his usual outstanding job.

This year, on January 1st, 2022, town officials were sworn in by Honorable Chris Kraft. Another Reason to Vote for the Republican--Conservative Candidates this Year

I was talking to a local business property owner who told me that he had found a buyer for his building and that a closing a had been scheduled for “a few days earlier.” However, a day before the closing was to have taken place, he was notified that the sale "could not move forward” because of an issue with the Town. The closing was then postponed. Upon further checking with the Town to determine the nature the problem, he was told that the weeds in front of the building were 14” high in violation of the 10” maximum town law. He was forced to go cut the weeds down below 14” to be in compliance with the code. And now, he will have to wait for the building inspector to come and inspect the brush to make sure it’s in compliance before he can proceed with the sale.

Gee, I wonder if this is just the beginning—and is this how the new property maintenance law will be? What happened to “Friendly Saugerties"?

Residents of Saugerties are only permitted to have the grass and/or weeds to grow 10” and anything over 10” is a violation of the law.

As a follow-up, the property owner asked why the property’s next-door neighbor wasn’t cited since he has a business with grass and/or weeds much higher than 14” and was told, “He’s not selling his business, you are.” What? Does the law actually say that? I've been told that during the public hearings regarding the implementation of this law that it was brought out that even town properties are not in compliance with these ridiculous regulations. I have a call and text message in to the building inspector but as of the time of his message, I have not gotten any response. What this all tells me is that someone must have complained specifically about this property. It means that someone from the Town had to physically make an inspection—with a ruler—to measure weeds. How petty! This sort of occurrence will only lead to selective law enforcement and pit neighbor against neighbor.

Let me share my experiences with you as a “former” law enforcement officer with more than 38-years of service. Laws are meant for everyone equally. If the town law says that grass and/or weeds cannot be higher than 10", that should apply to everyone… There should never be selective enforcement. In those 38-years I never saw one single person in this town cited for having grass/weeds more than 10” high.

I fear this is precisely what's going to happen in Saugerties after this new property maintenance law is passed. I’m sorry but this law, in my opinion, will be abused and will pit neighbor against neighbor. It will be selectively enforced, just as in this case (unless there's a specific provision in that law stating that a property must be in "weed compliance" in order to transfer it).

If and when the building inspector gets back to me, I’ll post any changes. In the meantime, this is what happens when we have Democrats in charge. Think of this when you vote this election. And make sure you get out and vote—every vote counts. If this disturbs you, please pass it around to everyone you know.

About Paul Andreassen

Two years ago Paul Andreassen (Independence Party) was approached by many individuals, including both current and former political party leaders, all of whom encouraged him to run for the town supervisor position.  Yet Paul, being the gentleman that he is, declined in deference to Jim Bruno, a Republican, and Fred Costello, who is also a member of the Independence Party, since both had announced that they would be running for supervisor. So, instead Paul Andreassen ran for town councilman and received overwhelming support from the Democrat, Conservative and Independence Parties.  In fact, Paul was the big “vote-getter,” garnering 2,799 votes on the Democrat line, 983 on the Conservative line and 520 on the Independence line, for a total of 4,302 votes, beating all the other candidates.  

One of the reasons, among others, that he decided to run for town supervisor this time around is the fact that there was only one candidate running, and Paul rightly feels that the voters deserve a choice.  Paul made it quite clear, from the day that he announced, that he would seek the endorsement from all political parties because it is his intention to represent everyone, not just those from specific parties.  Paul is more interested in serving the people than a political party—in fact, his saying is, “people not politics.”

When Paul announced that he would be running for town supervisor, he went through all the proper channels: interviews, carrying petitions, etc., seeking endorsements from all the parties, just as he had promised to do.   

What I find so ironic is that two years ago those same current and former leaders of the Democratic Committee who had praised Paul up and down for being a “great individual,” with “integrity” and who supported him wholeheartedly for election, this year have denied him even an opportunity to a fair and honest primary, in spite of the fact that he had gone out and collected more than 300-signatures from Saugerties’ Democrats to get on their line. Is this fair? When evaluating the parity of impartial opportunity here, a bit of the background should be taken into consideration: both Paul Andreassen and Fred Costello are members of the Independence Party. One could easily understand Democrats’ support of Costello if he were a registered Democrat, but he’s not. Since both contenders for the nomination are not Democrats, there really is no valid reason to support one and deny the other. A nomination for endorsement under such circumstances should have come by the primary process.  

Then, after denying Paul Andreassen an equal opportunity to vie for the Democrat endorsement through the process, negative letters began to appear in the Saugerties Times, again from the same current and former Democrat leaders, criticizing Paul for petty nonsense. The same people who had so vigorously encouraged him to run two years ago, have now turned their backs on him and in the process have turned theirs back on their very own party members as well. I hope that the 4,377 registered Democrat voters will recognize that it is actually their right to decide whom they want on their line through the primary process that has been taken away from them and that they will see through all these phony, negative attacks against Paul Andreassen. For Democrat voters who agree that Paul Andreassen is the best man for the job but was treated unfairly, their only option is to vote for him on another line.

I’ve known Paul Andreassen for more than forty years and I can honestly tell you that he is a unique and exceptional individual. In all the years that I have known him, he has consistently demonstrated a love for his hometown and its people. Don’t be fooled by the petty, negative attacks that crop up like clockwork every political season.  Paul is a good man of integrity, honesty and pride, who quietly does a damn good job, and I think most people know that.  Accordingly, I would suggest that the contrarians (those who paint everything with a negative brush and go against anything an opponent says or does) stop playing that game and focus on the issues instead of dealing in negativity.

And now, last but not least, the “opponents,” calling Paul out for abstaining on a vote was a very cheap and totally unfair shot at Paul.  Under Roberts Rules of Order (the bible of running a meeting), when someone abstains, it is neither a “yes” vote nor a  “no” vote—it’s not a vote at all. Occasionally the legislator, councilman, or whatever, might just say, “Present.” When a board member doesn’t have all the information necessary to make an informed vote, the only proper and responsible action is to vote “no,” with an explanation, or to abstain.

It was literally “Standing Room Only” at the town board meeting on May 1st. Unhappy residents of Saugerties were out in large numbers to object to the proposed new Noise Ordinance.

• He states that she is a liar;
• He claims that when she talks, she “fumbles” around with her words;
• He mocked her spelling of DA Holly Carnright.
  He jumps at each and every opportunity to insult and degrade her. It’s obvious, and as previously suggested, Chris Allen gives the absolute impression that he has some serious issues with women. On April 20th, Chris Allen was notified by the Conservative Party’s Vice-Chair, Gaetana Ciarlante, that the Party would be conducting interviews on May 5th for those seeking the Conservative line. On May 1st, Chris sent Vice-Chair Ciarlante the following e-mail:
  “After some self-evaluation of my options, I have decided to stick with the straight-up endorsements that I already have or will receive up front in this election cycle. In addition, there is a limit as to how many straight-up party endorsements that I can receive as a candidate in NYS.” *
  He was advising us that he would not be seeking our line, but panic struck once he learned that his likely opponent would be a female—Angie Minew, who was

The “war on women” exists right here in Ulster County and is being waged by none other than local misogynist Chris Allen. First there was his arrest for assaulting a woman and now he’s verbally assaulting his opponent….another woman, of course. His comments on Facebook were unprovoked, nasty, untrue and indicative of the arrogant and obnoxious facets of his personality. He obviously has an issue with women….one has to wonder what’s next….and wonder even more about what has yet to be uncovered from his past.

• If you are unhappy with the current administration, vote for me;
• If you are tired of tax-and-spend politicians, vote for me;
• If you are tired of secrecy and dishonesty, vote for me;
• If you don’t like the practice of special interest political party bosses with their own agenda, deciding who you will be permitted to vote for, vote for me;
• But mainly, If you feel that I will do a better job, then certainly, vote for me.

Gaetana Ciarlante, candidate for Town Supervisor, was out with a float bedecked with Gaetana for Supervisor signs. One small black sign simply says, “Go! Gaetana Go!” (bottom left). That sign was her very first when she ran last time, it was placed on her lawn early one morning by someone hoping that she would be running.


Angie Minew (candidate for legislator) was also on parade with a red, white and blue float.

When many readers of this post head out on the roads this morning, they will find themselves greeted by 100 new signs for Rob Astorino for New York State Governor and Chris Moss for Lt. Governor.
Why would Dan Ellsworth and I, Conservative Party officials, personally put up more than 100 signs for the Astorino-Moss team on a crisp cold night into the wee hours of the next morning? Simple answer: It had to be done. In just one week before the election the voters must realize that there is an option to Cuomo's reign of terror. A few points:

• Rob Astorino recognizes the importance of a strong economy and real job creation as opposed to the expansion of government bureaucracy and artificial creation of jobs, which increases taxes. Rob promotes attracting businesses and industry, which in turn creates real jobs and decreases taxes.

• He has real experience as the Westchester County Executive that has been re-elected with a wide margin because of his ability to work with all people regardless of party affiliation. 

• Rob Astorino holds fast to the Constitution. As such he is a supporter of the Second Amendment; He is against the (un)S.A.F.E. Act and has made it a priority to repeal this law that makes New Yorkers more vulnerable to crime. Chris Moss, Sheriff of Chemung County, holds an impeccable record as a leader as well as in the area of law enforcement. He holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Marist College and is President of the New York State Sheriff's Association. He will work toward making New York State safer and for a repeal of the (un)S.A.F.E. Act.

• Astorino promotes local control of education and is opposed to Common Core. To summarize, the Astorino-Moss team is about bringing New York State to economic recovery and ending the mass exodus by lifetime New Yorkers, helping families stay together, and bringing back the industrious creative individuals who have fled New York for a safe and productive life.

New York's hastily passed "SAFE Act" has been wildly unpopular among many New Yorkers with a lawsuit having been brought alleging that the Act violates the Fifth, Second, Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments, as well as being discriminatory!
